About This Archive
This archive preserves the records of approximately 1,500 children who passed through the care of L'Hôtel-Dieu de Québec as enfants trouvés (foundlings) between the 17th and 19th centuries. Each record documents a child's journey from birth or abandonment through baptism, admission, placement with families, and in many cases, their death.
Search by name, browse by date ranges, or explore connections between children through shared placement families, godparents, and birth cohorts. This is a living archive, with evidence sources and annotations to be added as digitization efforts continue.
